WHO IS ST GEORGE COMMUNITY HOUSING

The Australian housing sector is divided into three areas; the private market (owners and private renters), social housing (government-funded subsidised housing for those on low and statutory incomes) and affordable housing (discount to market rent for people who are employed in key services on low incomes).

 

 

 

Community Housing offers an alternative to public housing and the private rental market. Tenants and properties are managed by non-government, not-for-profit Community Housing Providers (CHPs) who provide rental housing at discount to market rent for people on low to moderate incomes including those who require support to secure and maintain appropriate housing. CHPs manage social, affordable and supported housing.

SGCH's purpose has evolved to include innovations that support people to improve lives.

A Class 1 Provider
St George Community Housing is a Class 1 Community Housing Provider. The organisation has been in operation for over 25 years, since 1985. The organisation has experienced significant growth – from 25 properties to over 4,000 in 2011. SGCH is now recognised as the largest provider of community housing in NSW, providing services to over 8,500 individuals. Over time, SGCH's purpose has evolved to include the provision of not only secure, affordable housing but a range of other innovations that support people to improve their lives and engage in their communities.

Our Key is Integration
SGCH adopts an "integrated approach to social and asset issues". Our focus is on improving the lives of our tenants by providing shelter, and then offering links to support, training, education, employment and community engagement opportunities.
